I have been using two products in conjunction that seem to be working.

The first one I use everyday in the morning before I shave, it is the Gillette thermal face scrub.

Everything seems to be in working order but I just wanted to know if continued usage would be potentially harmful or if it's "too much" to be using.

  You are supposed to be washing your face at least 3 times a day. You are using the right products but it would be better to use only one brand and not two in a day.
  Apply an oil-free moisturiser with spf at day time for protection and moisturization. Your daily regimen depends on your age. If you are in your teens then do use a moisturiser with spf for protection from sun damage.

QUESTION:
Is my facial wash too strong?
I use Nivea Men's Deep Cleaning Facial Wash (http://www.niveaformen.com/products/face_cleansing/conditioning_face_wash.html) and I'm only 16. I use it once a week as when I used it first I felt that my skin became too dry and I feared that it was too strong for me. Is this product really too much for my age to handle?

In addition to that, will frequent washing of my face make it oily? My face becomes oily when its too humid and the oily bit is usually concentrated on my forehead. How do I cure this?

Also, mind posting some tips and useful suggestions on facial washing? Like the temperature of the water used and the way I scrub my face? Thanks!

• ANSWER:
  I'd suggest using a more mild face wash. Anything too harsh will only dry out your skin and worsen the condition. Because you're sixteen, your skin is very different than what the skin of older men is like, so you could try products directed to teens.

  When looking for facial cleansers, look for labels that say "Gentle" or "Hypoallergenic" on them so you know you are using a safe product. Experimenting with products is always good, but test them on a patch of skin on your arm (wait 2-3 hours) first to test for bad reactions.

  Also look for products with more natural ingredients, those are always preferable. Still check for allergies. Sometimes allergies don't look very prominent and don't leave rashes, but will make acne worse.

  Try using Cetaphil, Acne Aid, Clean&Clear... don't be afraid to use "girly" cleansers, just hide it when people come over.

  Really, Trial and Error is the best way to choose or seeing a Dermatologist.

  Use warm but not really hot water on your face when cleaning, and close your pores after by rinsing with cold water splashes 4-5 times. Always dry with a clean towel, and pat-dry, don't rub. Scrub your face in circular motions.

  If you want a really quick solution, put honey on your face, Sounds weird, but put it on and leave it, rinse after 20 minutes and your skin will look great, it really works.

Is this a great Facial Routine?Improving?
Every morning when I take a shower I use the Nivea for men moisturizing face wash or the Neutragena invigorating face wash, when I get out and I'm done putting on my clothes and gel I put on Neutragena Men triple protect face lotion spf 20.

Now comes the tricky part

When I go to sleep I first start with L'Oreal Go 360 Clean Deep Exfoliating Scrub (I exfoliate every single day, even though I know you're suppose to only do it 3 times a week max, I don't know if this is bad)
Then I proceed to use either Proactiv System or Clearasil Ultra Acne + Marks Wash and Mask then with the Proactiv Repairing lotion.

I also use a glycolic acid peel 35% every Monday for approximately 8 minutes (Been doing it for the last two months, I recently ordered a glycolic acid 50%/ Lactic Acid 60% combination peel.) I do this after I'm done exfoliating, then when I wash off the peel I put the Neutragena Triple protect face lotion to go to sleep.

I would like for somebody to tell me if this is good system or should I remove/add some things?

My skin type is combination.

  First off, get rid of any acne treatments you have! Salicylic acid and Benzoyl peroxide are very harsh on the skin and cause more irritation than you need. Now what you need to do it get a gentle facial cleanser. Natural is always better. Next get a good toner. A toner is THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP TO CLEAR SKIN! A toner restores your skin to the natural PH levels in your skin. It's alright if a toner contains a small percentage of salicylic acid. Next get a gentle, not thick lotion. Lotion restores the natural hydration to your face. Usually on the label of the lotion it always says something about dry irritated skin. Well when using salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide your making the skin dryer and more irritated then it already is!
  P.S: You may break out a little more only because your bringing all the toxins in your face to the surface. Once there is no toxins, you cant break out!(: Your skin should be perfectly clear in a couple weeks. (Some people see results right away.)

QUESTION:
My face is breaking out - help!?
I am a 21 year old male and up until the past few months I have never had real bad acne. Before the new year I was using the Oxy face wash (10% Benzyol Peroxide) and the Oxy pads (2% salicylic acid) and the spot treatment.

I switched to the Nivea for Men (Sensitive) but it seem not to work. I was using the Q15 moisturizer along with it. Now at the present date I am back to the Oxy and my face seems to be worse than before.

I have scars and bumps and I can see future one's sprouting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What is the best solution to cleansing my face? I try to sleep on a clean towel but nothing seems to work!

I was thinking about trying the Dove for Men's deep cleaning bar soap but I'm not sure. Any product recommendations would help. I have googled this from time and time again. Searched Yahoo answers and I couldn't find any answers. Maybe YOU can be the first to help! Thanks in advance!

  Don't use anymore products that contain salicylic acid and other drying ingredients!!!!!!!!!!

  Possibly what has happened is you over dried your skin and now it has become overly sensitive, and this is what is making you break out! (This has happened to me, after using Pro Active for too long , once my skin got better.)

  What people don't realise is that your skin type is always changing, and it is very easy to push it over in to another skin type over time.
  Also it is very important that you know the following:
  salicylic acid is one of the strongest types of chemical...It is only allowed to be in a maximum of 3% in products. the way it works is that it starts to dry the skin in the certain area it was applied to, and this sends a message to the cells to start producing more "skin"...thus it helps to "peel away blemishes". What they also DON'T tell you about it, is that each time you treat the area again with the chemical, it becomes a more and more intense effect.

  All the drug store labels such as Oxy, Neutrogena, Clean and Clear...etc all contain usually these ingredients (Also they do not separate dry combination skin and OILY Skin...they only have COMBINATION). Now since your skin is over dried and sensitive, you MUST stop using these brands.

  Bad news: You will have to invest in some major good quality skin care.
  The must haves I would recommend and SHOP FOR SENSITIVE DRY SKIN from now on until your skin gets better :
  A good cleanser either water based or a milk. ( Clarins is great Acive Jour One step cleanser and tonic is AMAZING!)
  Buy a great moisturizer!! ( Biotherm, Clarins again is great...also LIERAC, Avene, La Roche Posay...this last one is especially for sensitive skin)
  For spots : La Roche Posay Effaclar A.I. or some tea tree oil, though it could be too strong.

  Make sure you moisturize morning and evening...also VICHY an La Roche Posay have these thermal water sprays that refresh your skin and help calm irritation! You should try that definately!!
  Only use spot treatments on the blemish.
  Do not over wash your face. Your skin needs its natural oils.

So I am 16 and here is my skin type:

-dry
-sometimes get pimples near forehead and around nose, but not much
-sensitive

My evening skincare routine is (and my skin is pretty flawless):

-aveeno daily brightening scrub
-mary cohr soothing face cleanser
-mary cohr perfect defense cream OR ponds dry skin cream

I have been looking into powder for these reasons:

-my face gets really red throughout the day because I have Erythrophobia
-i don't know if most girls my age wear powder
-just another thing to add to my morning routine

However...I want it to look natural and not irritate my dry, sensitive skin.

Does face powder clog pores?

Are you supposed to wear face powder over a foundation or primer, or can you just put it on after you moisturize?

If I am content with my skin, should I still use powder? My skin doesn't get oily though. I just thought it would make my skin look perfect!

Also, do any of you have any tips on how to keep my face from blushing a lot and just how to cover it up? Because it isn't just my cheeks, my whole face turns bright red!! Should I wear powder for that and will it help conceal it?

  NO!!! Powder will make your skin even drier!!! I have dry skin too, and powder made my skin so horribly dry it is not even funny! Wear a tinted moisturizer instead, which will do the same thing as powder but it good for dry skin.

Pond's dry skin cream is really irritating my skin...?
I love the job it is doing, i mean, my skin is really soft and smooth... way more effective than any other cream... but it is irritating my skin... it is so itchy with a sort of burning feel...looks great, but i'm always catching myself scratching my face...

  I would stop using the cream right away. Three days ago I stated using the pond's cream and everything was good, till i saw my skin getting red. Now my skin has a weird feel and look to it because of the cream.

  SP15 is good for your face as it is exposed longer than any other part of your body to the sun. So yes you will tan and do so safely continue to use it

  Clean and clear is better if you're already oily.
  I used the YTC and I got the biggest rash I've ever had. Went all the way down my neck. Ew.

  But the Clean and clear will be more drying to your skin, which will make you produce more oil. What you want is a balancing moisturizer.

  All Neutrogena skin care products are hypoallergenic. I still use the Neutrogena Dry-Touch Sunblock with SPF70 and their Skin Firming Lotion with SPF20. I have never had a problem with any Neutrogena products and they are recommended by Dermatologists and Cosmetic Surgeons because I have asked. Because all of their skin care products are hypoallergenic, they have very little smell and they do not have additives that will break you out. Neutrogena makes very safe products and all the products I have used are light and non-greasy. The only problem is that SPF15 is very light. You may want to add a non-greasy sunblock like the one I mentioned above under your moisturizer, especially if you have light colored skin because it tends to burn more easily than medium and dark colored skin.If you have oily skin, I would try the Oil-Free moisturizer. I am just the exact opposite but I have very sensitive skin, so I want a little extra moisture in my lotion. Personally, I love Neutrogena skin care productsbecause they have a line that suits almost everyone!!

Okay well I am on the dance team at my school and we now have to run more outside. So, that means more minutes in the hot, blazing sun! I do not want to get a noticeable tan..AT ALL! So I apply and reapply SPF 50 all over my body, i know it sounds ridiculous but that is how serious I am. However, I have this Murad Mattifier that contains SPF 15 for my face.
I am wondering is SPF 15 enough to last me from 2:40-3:15 with direct sunlight? Or do I need to get SPF 30? Also, do I need to reapply the SPF 15 before we run for better protection? Thanks for having the patience to read this!

  The SPF does not tell you about tan protection. Make sure the sunscreen has zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, avobenzone or Parsol 1789. One of these active ingredients will block UVA well and prevent a tan. Reapply as needed. Unless you are sweating it off one application 15-30 min before you run should be good. If you use the zinc or titanium types you can apply it right before you leave. They reflect rather than absorb light.

  I have very oily skin and i'm pretty sure that i have the same moisturizer as you.(does it say 100% oil free on the box?) if it doesnt then you should get that one because it worked great for me. it doesnt cause breakouts and is absorbed immediately. Good luck!:)

  If you're outside for any amount of time in the summer, you do need something stronger, probably at least an SPF 30. Rather than applying it right up to your eyes, you could try blending it around the eye area and then wear sunglasses (which have proper UV protection) to protect the area around the eyes- they'll stop you squinting and developing lines that way as well. You could also try a thicker product like Mac's Prep and Prime SPF 50, which won't run into your eyes like some sunscreens can.

  A really great moisturizer is the Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer. Its non-comedogenic, oil free and fragrance free, has SPF 15 and not very expensive. You can buy it at almost any drugstore in the skin care section under the other Cetaphil products.

  Hope this helps! I use it along with my Tea Tree Oil face wash and it works great!

  neutrogena, for sure. and you know what has worked well for me? well the oil free moisturizer has, but if you buy the neutrogena dry touch sunscreen, that is sp 80 (!!! i know!) and it also acts as a moisturizer. it's not oily and sticky at allllll like your average moisturizer. i love it. try that!

  the only differentce is that real sunblock is water and sand proof,but the lotion with built spf isnt. but it is fine when you are going swimming.
  i like lubriderm on my face because it isnt greasy. and yes it has sunscreen,but it isnt water or sand proof.

I'm 16 and new to make up. When I use foundation it tends to cake up around my nose and forehead(because those are my dry areas) and I don't even use a lot of it!   Noo, it definetly won't make it run!! Especially since you have dry skin you should wash your face and put on moisturizer before putting on the foundation! It will make it look a lot better! And don't use alot of foundation!

I've been using Olay Complete moisturizer for sensitive skin (unscented) with SPF 15, but recently I've been trying to find products with SPF 30 because I'm on Retin-A Micro and burn easily enough as it is. I've tried a couple of products from Olay and Neutrogena- moisturizer and sheer foundation- with SPF 30 and they smell really, really sunscreen-y. Is this typical of a higher SPF, or are there products out there that don't have that scent?

SPF face lotion, should I stop for tanning?
Every morning I use an SPF 15 face lotion as a moisturizer. As Prom is approaching, I'm going to start tanning. Is there a reason I should stop using the face lotion? I put it on in the morning before I go to school, and tanning would be after school, so would the SPF be ineffective by then?
Last year I didn't use a lotion with SPF, so I didn't have an issue...

  Whether you are tanning or not, you should still use a SPF lotion. If you want to tan quickly, use a one with a low SPF factor, like 10 or 5. It will protect your skin, but still allow a nice tan. Remember, UVA rays can cause skin cancer, try to protect your skin

I have oily skin but I still like to use a moisturizer cuz if I don't then it will get pretty dry. Right now i'm using the Neutrogena oil-free moisture spf 15 which is so awful. I've been using it for about 5 months only because its the only moisturizer that I found that actually is very moisturizing. The negative things about it, is that it makes me break out, it makes my face red, and it makes my skin very greasy. Everything else that i've tried has been either greasy, sticky, or it made my face red and irritated. I also tried the L'oreal Active Daily Moisturizer which was super sticky and I felt it on my face all day. I couldn't wait to wash it off. The only reason why I haven't tossed the Neutrogena one that i'm using is because I really can't find anything that moisturizes as well as this one. And even though it makes me break out i guess i've learned to just deal with it until i find somethin else. I also tried the new version of the Olay complete spf 15 moisturizer which made me break out and stung my face. So i havent had much luck in finding something So if anyone can recommend a good moisturizer then please let me know!

  Well ultimately it depends on the type of skin you have. I use one that has SPF 15 and that is enough for me but your skin type might require SPF 55. You would have to know if it is too much for your face, but uslayy the higher the better.

  You can try Clinique, Origins, Kiehl's or Estee Lauder which have pretty good products but you may need to trial and error as everyone has different skin type and different preference. Moisturizer usually do not leave white residue which some sunscreen do. I personally prefer to use moisturizer and sunscreen separately as I do not use night moisturizer at the moment.

  Do not use face moisturizer on eyes area which are more sensitive. Use eye cream/gel which is made specially for eyes area.

  Do wait for at least 10 minutes or till the moisturizer is totally absorb by your skin before exposing yourself to the sun.

I use a mositurizer every morning and night, but my moisturizer has SPF 15 in it. Is it okay to use that at night? Or should i get one without SPF in it for at night?   It isn't bad for your per say but at night your skin goes through regeneration and a night cream is more specific - so when you have a few extra bucks pick yourself up a good night cream.

  I started using this Dec. 20 to be exact. I wear it under my makeup. I apply it to not only my face but my neck as well. Yes it does have Salicylic Acid (acne medication) that's why it's called dual action. I have combination skin during the winter months. I've had no unwanted side effects from using this product, I'm happy with it and believe me I'm very careful with what I apply to my skin. I also have eczema (dry patches of skin that can be very itchy). It only take about a small amount, not a lot and it works. I also apply it after cleaning my face at the end of day, before going to bed. I like the way my skin feels and I will continue to use this product.

  Try Nuetrogena Ultra-Sheer dry touch sunblock. this can be bought at a drugstore and was rated one of the best. ive used it before and it works great, doesnt make sking oily. i think it comes in many different spfs, so you should be able to find the right one. Why does my face moisturizer flake off?
I use Aveeno Active Naturals Skin Brightening Daily Scrub with Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15. I also use a bit of baby powder with aloe vera and vitamin E because without it the moisture from my face makes my bangs get greasy very easily.

Lately I noticed my skin was getting very dry and the moisturizer would flake off all over after it sat for a few seconds. My face sometimes feels like I have a mild sunburn even though I rarely go outside willingly. I don't use any heavy face make-up, just talc-free loose powder, my eye make-up, chap-stick and lip-stick.

Does anyone know what is going on or have any suggestions on how to fix said problem? I prefer to avoid products that use excessive chemicals (ex: proactive was way too harsh on my skin) I also have a problem with very mild acne, black-heads and red areas

  I have heard good things about Aveeno, but that is pricy and I am not sure how 'natural' they are.

  Otherwise, as the others have said, Aloe vera is good. What I would also recommend is Jojoba oil, just a bit, as a moisturizer. Jojoba oil strongly resembles the body's natural oils, and using it wisely can help to calm your skin's oiliness. (Yeah, I know, it's strange; use oil to banish oil. But if you're already seeking moisturizer, I trust you understand the importance of not over-drying the skin, as that simply causes it to become irritated and over-produce oils.)
